Fight Anatomy

One of the most important parts of fighting is knowing where to hit your opponent. There are multiple weak points in the body that a person should aim for if trying to do damage and knock the opponent out

HEAD: Nose: The nose is a very sensitive part of the body a good strike to the nose will cause pain, distortion, watery eyes which will cause blurred vision, and if it's hit hard enough the nose will break causing even more pain, blood to gush from the nose and breathing problems see a solid jab or cross to the nose can cause big problems.

Temples: The temples are the soft spots on the sides of your head they are extremely sensitive and when hit can cause, dizziness, pain, distortion and lose of consciousness. When throwing hooks aim for the temples

Eyes: The eyes are very sensitive points on the body this is common knowledge there for a solid jab or cross to an eye will cause your opponent to be in pain, be stunned and see alot less clear.

Ears: Are weak and should also be aimed for when throwing a hook a good shot to the ear will cause amazing pain, distortion, ringing ears, dizziness and lose of consciousness

Soft under jaw: When throwing an uppercut try to hit right infront of the throat and under the jaw this spot is a pressure point that hurts like hell and well cause a knock out. UPPER BODY: Solorplexus: The solorplexus is the soft spot right where the ribs begin to separate. A strong, straight punch to the solorplexus will cause sever pain as well as problems breathing, lose of consciousness has a small chance of occurring

Liver: The liver is located right underneath the right side of the ribs and right above the right hip. A solid hook or shovel hook (Hook/ Uppercut hybrid) to the liver will cause extreme pain, distortion and a technical or total lose of consciousness.

Pancreas: The pancreas is very similar to the liver the only diffrence is that its located on the opposite side of the body.

LOWER BODY: Knees: The knees are nice and weak a good kick to the knees will cause some discomfort and cause the legs to buckle and if the knee is dislocated you earn a TKO victory,

Inside the theigh: An inside leg kick is dangerous because you may hit the groin but if your careful and do the move right this is a very painful kick and will cause the leg to go numb and can cause lose of balance

Ancles:  Hitting the ancles can cause some pain but the main point of a good ancle kick is to knock your opponent off balance and put them on the ass.

Shins: Getting kicked in the shin hurts........Alot...... its that simple.

ILLEGAL MMA SHOTS/ GOOD STREET FIGHT SHOT: Groin

Striking

INTRO: Striking is a very critical part of MMA without atleast decent strikeing ability you wont get very far in the sport of MMA.
When your striking the first thing that most people don't realize is that you dont want to use only your arms. You want to use your whole body and watch it all move together like a wave. you should start off by push off of the foot on the same side as the arm that's punching. For example your punching with your right hand you push off of your right foot. Next your hips should sort of start moveing on their own because of the push from your foot what you want to do is use your core muscles and twist your hips in the direction that their already moveing in. Next your chest and pecs will start folllowing your hips your going to force them into motion the same way you did with youhips. Next your going to roll your shoulder straighten out your arm and nail through your target. It's very important that you hit through your target and you dont just stop once the strike lands because hitting through your target will do alot more damage.

Stance

Karate stances are rarely used in MMA but are perfectly balanced

When practiceing MMA the very first thing you need to learn and perfect is your stance. Your stance will affect how well you move and well you can certain things. Like a wrestlers stance is usually much lower then a boxers stance so they can attack their oppenents legs and go for the take down while the boxers stance is taller and a little more straight so they can hit their oppent in the face easier as well as easily avoid and block punchs to their face. Most MMA fighters pick a stance some where in the middle of the two with slight adjustments so they can do what they like to do easy but they don't leave holes open for an opponent of a diffrent fighting style to abuse.
Picture of  a strikeing focused MMA stance
they are clearly more confortable strikeing
but provide enough balnce to prevent takedowns
This image is a little over dramatic but you can see how a wrestler would easily be punched and kicked multiple time while the boxers would easily be taken down but the MMA fighter could counter act both styles

Something diffrent.

Alright so instead of writeing about MMA because I had a cool idea but but things diddn't go as planned so i'll just talk about my weekend. Had a great time friday night with my brother Jen, Kristy and Cassidy. Saturday I made my step mom a flower box and picked out a card and signed it wither Corey and gave it to her as an early mothers day present. Then sunday woke-up at 4:30 went to my grandpa's wood floor shop left there at about 6:15 to go to Portland arrived there at like 8:45-9:00ish. worked untill about 5:30 then went home and arrived home at about 8:00 so if you include the preperation and ride there and back i worked a beautiful 14 hour shift if you dont count the drive it was only 9 hours but trust and beleive  hand scraping and working an edger (A small 30 pound machine that's used to scrap paint, stain and finish off of floors mainly used on the edges of the room which is where it gets its name. it's fun for a minute but destroys your arms, legs, and back after a while. It looks alot easier than it is to.) for 9 hours kind of sucks. Needless to say i'm a little sore today but when the new layer of finish is applied and it looks beautiful I begin to realize it's all worth it. Plus the pays pretty nice.

George St Pierre is an extremely good fighter and often advertised as the most well rounded fighter in MMA meaning. He can finish a fight no matter where it goes on the ground or on his feet. He has some of the best takedowns and has extremly good ground and pound skills. He is still extremely young and gets better after every fight he has avaenged both his loses proveing he truely is the best in his weight class. The only hole in his fight game is that his submissions are not at a black belt level but are still very good which is a very small issue given how devastateing his hands are.

Anderson Silva is the king of dodgeing and counter punching if the fight is kept off the ground Silva is practiclly garanted the victory because you cant beat what you can't hit and Anderson Silva almost never gets hit. Silva also has a devasting Muay Thai clinch and knee combo. Silva Perfers to stand rather than go to the ground but if the fight goes down he can still hold his own rather well especially if he can keep St Pierre inside his gaurd where he throws deadly unorthodox submissions. Silva has only avenged one of his four losses, his ground game is less than spectacular and he's getting a little old.

Sweeps and Pommels

Sweeps and Pommels: sweeping and pommeling are forms of ground grappling and are ways to  gain a better postion. Sweeps are usually done from a submissive postion. (Weak postion usually on your back.) and pommels are usually done from a dominate postion to get an even better postion.(Full mount, Full guard, Half guard, Side control etc.) Because sweeps and pommels are so advanced and come in very large varities im not going to list them like i did with takedowns, and submissions if you wish to learn more i'll be happy to teach you.

Example of a pommel full guard pass
This is an example of a sweep the guyt in the black uniform is doing the sweep and should end up on top in full mount postion which is a great place to be

Submissions

What is a submission? A submission is a move that manipulates a certain part of the body in such a way that it causes unbelievable pain which causes your opponent to surrender.

Arm bars: Arm bars are one of the most popular submissions in MMA they are usually pretty easy to do and can be done from almost any position. The main goal of an arm bar is to pull on one part of the arm and push on another causing hyper-extension on the elbow which causes a great deal of pain :-).

Kimuras: Kimura's are another arm lock that are usually pretty popular. The ultimate goal of a Kimura is to twist the arm either backward or foward causeing extreme pain and then a submission. This move is usually pretty dangerous because it can break limbs with out warning.

Leglocks: Leglocks is an extremely broad area of submissions and arn't usually very popular because they need to be done perfect to be painful and are usually done from ackweird postions and are annoying to set up. The main goal of a leglock is to attack any joint within the leg such as the knee or ancle and cause more hyper-extension yayyyyy:-).

Guilotine Choke: The guilotine choke is one of the most popular submissions when someones opponent is trying to shoot for a double leg. The goal is to get your opponents neck in the grove of your elbow and then grab the wrist of the arm that is chokeing and pull up if your on your back use your legs and hips for more leverage.

Rear Naked Choke/ Sleeper Hold: The rear naked choke is sometimes known as the sleeper hold and is an extremely popular move because it's easy to sink in and once it's sunk in it's extremely hard to get out of.

Triangle Choke: The triangle is an extremely good move but isn't as popular as it should be. I love the triangle choke because it's easy to do and hard to defend against. The goal of the triangle choke is to trap your opponents arm with either your arms or legs and choke your opponent useing his own shoulder and your legs or arms.

Takedown Defense

SPRAWL: No matter what kind of takedown is being thrown against you, the best way to defend against a takedown is to create distance seperateing you from your opponent. your first step is to put your hands on either your opponents hips or shoulders depending on the take down. For example if they are shooting for a double leg then you should put your hands on their shoulders but if their trying to throw you with a suplay or hip-toss, your best option is to push on their hips. Next your going to continue to create space between you and your opponent by thrusting your hips away from them. Next you should attempt to grab your opponents head and hold it tight. Next your legs should follow kick back and away from your opponent . Finally your going to pull down on their head and push your weight down on their back the end result should be your opponent on his hands and knees and your laying in a postion that he literally can not attack you from.

Cross face and spin: So sometimes the sprawl just doesn't work the way its suppose to. either you reacted to slow to get good enough space or your opponent just grabbed you nice and tight. But that's ok because if he attacked your legs you still have a very strong defense which is the cross face and spin, and if you do it right your opponent is screwed because you will have their back which is the worst possible postion to be in, in MMA. Ok so the first step is to select a side that your going to spin to left or right (I suggest spining toawrds you weak side for example if your right handed spin left.) The second step is to take the arm thats on the side your spining on (If your spining left use your left arm): and sneak it in between the opponents closest arm. Next take your other arm and shove it hard against your opponents face (Use your fist or forearm so you don't poke any eyes by mistake.) Finally push against your opponents face with your strong arm while you use your weak arm to push on your opponents arm and spin to their rear.
Counter Throw: Sometimes you get lucky and your opponent sucks at grappling but goes for a throw anyway. They make a mistake, over commit or whatever else and a hole opens open. When this happens attack and counter throw and make them never want to even try to grapple for the rest of their carrer. A counter throw can't really be given step by step instructions but the basic idea is instead of createing space you want to close the distance attack the hole and throw your opponent on his back, then laugh.

Takedowns

A takedown is a tackle, throw or slam that is intended to get your opponent on their back and in bad postion where you can pin them and pound their face in or where you can shoot for a submission and finish the fight.
Double leg: The double leg takedown is one of the most commonly used takedowns. The goal of the double leg is to attack both of your opponent's legs at the same time to knock them off balance. There are multiple ways to finish this move but the end results are usually the same the only diffrence is sometimes you may end up in full gaurd and other times you may end up in half gaurd. (Its better to end up in half.)

Single leg: The single leg take down is also a popular takedown the ultimate goal of the single leg is extremely similar to that of the double leg except you only attack a single leg insted of both of them. there are alot of ways to set up the single such as fake for a double but only grab one  simply shot for one leg or fake for a hip toss then attack a leg. Because the single leg is easier to shoot for and easier to finsih with less danger of a a submission most newer fighters chose a single leg over the double leg. the move is usually finished in half guard.

Suplays: Suplays are HUGE power-slams usually done from a bear a hug there fun to watch, fun to do and they usually hurt like hell these types of slams are extremely popular among exprianced grapplers and giant power house style fighters. The move is usually finished in side control, half gaurd, or rear mount if you throw a rear suplay.

Hip tosses: Hip tosses are extremely awesome looking and are my favorite type of takedowns. they can be hit from almost any where and are a great way to catch a lazy or tired opponent of gaurd nailing a good hip toss will put your opponent in big trouble, win you big points and if know how to ground-and-pound or how to submit you are likely only a few short seconds away from victory.

The X-Sweep: The X-SWEEP sucks. You pretty much wrap your legs around your opponents and attempt to use your weight to knock them down. lots of people like it because it looks cool and opponent won't generally see it comeing. How ever the chances of the move actually landing is very small. It is ended with a knee bar trying to be locked in seeing as its the only thing its good for.

Diet

High Protein High Carb Diet multiple small meals lots of water: Protein helps build and restore muscles and also provides bursts of energy. Carbs produce alot of energy that can be stored and used for long periods time how ever to many carbs or carbs at the wrong times will cause weight gain and drain your energy try eating your carbs and before your final meal. Breaking up your diet into multiple small helpings rather than a few large helpings will help increase your metabolism which will help lose weight and also produce energy. Water obviously keeps people hydrated the more you exercise and sweat the more water you drink. Water also helps transport nutrients to your cells and other body parts and helps your body absorb nutrients better. It also increases the speed of your metabolism which produces energy and promotes weight loss.
